About the Fund
In 2004, the Scottish Government announced the launch of a new Public Sector Energy Efficiency Initiative.
Under this initiative, £20 million in new funding was provided over 2004/05 and 2005/06 to implement energy efficiency and, from 2008, renewable energy measures, to reduce carbon emissions across the public sector in Scotland. The scheme applies to all Scottish local authorities and health boards as well as Scottish Water.
The funding has been used to set up revolving funds administered at local level. The savings from energy efficiency measures are then used to invest in further energy efficiency measures and to improve frontline services.
